The number of municipalities in Sergipe at high risk of infestation by Aedes aegypti has doubled, according to data from the Sergipe State Department of Health released this Monday (1st).

According to the second Aedes aegypti Infestation Index Rapid Survey (LIRAa), eight cities in Sergipe are at high risk. In the first survey, carried out in January this year, there were four. The report further showed that 54 are at medium risk and only 13 municipalities are at low risk.

You municipalities at highest risk are: Simão Dias (9.0), Itabaiana (8.3), Areia Branca (7.1), Salgado (5.9), Capela (5.8), Nossa Senhora da Glória (4.8), Siriri (4.1) and Cumbe (4.0).

Some of the municipalities that presented or maintained a high index pointed out significant growth from the first to the second LIRAa. The city of Itabaiana went from (4.0) to (8.3); Simão Dias went from (6.4) to (9.0); Areia Branca went from medium risk (1.7) to high risk (7.1), representing an increase of 34.4%.

The satisfactory index ranges from 0 to 0.9; that of medium infestation from 1.0 to 3.9 and that of high risk above 4.0. Between the municipalities in satisfactory condition for Aedes aegypti are Canindé de São Francisco (0.8), Itabi (0.8), Pacatuba (0); Pebbles (0.6); Santana de São Francisco (0.9) and among others.

According to the SES endemic diseases manager, Sidney Sá, the objective of the survey is to identify in a timely manner the infestation of the Aedes aegypti mosquito existing in the state’s 75 municipalities.
