Influencer arrested for illegally carrying a weapon in Rio is released

The influencer Samara Mapoua30 years old, was released from Benfica prison, located in the North Zone of Rio de Janeiro, where she had been held since last Tuesday, the 26th. She was arrested in the act for illegal possession of a firearm.

The release took place on the morning of this Sunday, 31. On social media, Samara’s mother shared a video showing the moment in which the influencer was received by her family at the prison door.

According to a statement released on Samara’s profile, through her legal advisor, published the day before her release, she states that the arrest was the result of a “decision to protect and defend those who were with me”.

“That whole scenario at 4 am in the morning was a lot of pressure, and the only option I found at the time was to declare that the gun was mine so that everyone could get out of that situation. I don’t regret what I did and I will settle my accounts with the courts and when I gain my freedom, I will clarify and tell you everything. I love all of you who are supporting me and know that I never did and would not do this out of spite, it was an accident,” he wrote.

Remember the case

The arrest took place in the early hours of Tuesday, 26th, in Rio de Janeiro. According to the Military Police, agents from the 22nd BPM (Maré) requested the stop of the car, which had six occupants, due to a ‘suspicious attitude’. When police inspected the vehicle, they found a pistol loaded with ammunition and six cell phones. The items and vehicle were seized and the occupants were taken to the police station.

Upon arriving at the police unit, the influencer identified herself as the owner of the weapon. With the confirmation of illegal possession, Samara claimed that she acquired the pistol for self-defense due to the ‘large number of followers’ she has on social media. On Instagram, the content creator has almost 300 thousand followers.
