The Municipal Health Department (SMS) is investigating three deaths in Maceió that may have been caused by dengue fever, as confirmed this Tuesday (30). Two other deaths were ruled out after analysis, but the sex, age and neighborhoods of the victims were not disclosed.

As of April 29, Maceió recorded 1,884 probable cases of dengue and 1,764 confirmations of the disease. Compared to the same period in 2023, when 740 cases were confirmed, there was an increase of 138.38%.

The 6th Health District, which encompasses the Benedito Bentes neighborhood and surrounding areas, had the highest incidence per 100 thousand inhabitants. Furthermore, among all neighborhoods in the city, Benedito Bentes (407.94/100 thousand inhabitants), Pontal da Barra (381.24/100 thousand inhabitants) and Jacarecica (308.44 cases/100 thousand inhabitants) had the highest incidence rates.

In the state of Alagoas, three people died as a result of dengue. The first death was registered on March 26, in Atalaia. The second death was confirmed on April 9, involving a woman from Viçosa. The third victim, also a woman, lived in Porto de Pedras.

The Ministry of Health reported this Monday (29) that four deaths are under investigation in Alagoas, including one in Maceió. The data must be updated by the State Department of Health.

The latest epidemiological bulletin indicated that, between April 16 and 23, there was an increase of 1,173 cases reported in Alagoas, with a total of 6,804 cases, confirmed or suspected. Compared to the same period in 2023, there was an increase of 195.8%.

Vaccination

Last Monday (29), Alagoas began distributing more than 22 thousand doses of the dengue vaccine. The Qdenga vaccine arrived in the state last Friday and is stored at the headquarters of the National Immunization Program in Maceió. In total, Alagoas will receive 88,694 doses.

The target audience for vaccination is children and adolescents between 10 and 14 years old, who have the highest proportion of hospitalizations due to dengue, according to the Ministry of Health. Brazil is the first country in the world to offer the dengue vaccine through the Unified System of Health (SUS).

Maceió will receive 65,327 doses of the vaccine; other cities will also receive a significant number of doses, such as Rio Largo (7,670) and Marechal Deodoro (4,710). The vaccine administration schedule has not yet been released.
