Copa do Brasil 2025: Botafogo confirms place and only one Serie A club is not guaranteed | Brazil’s Cup

With the 2024 Taça Rio title, won this Sunday, Botafogo guaranteed a place in next season’s Copa do Brasil. To date, 53 clubs have confirmed their participation in the 2025 national competition. Among the teams in Series A of the Brazilian Championship, Corinthians is the only one that has not yet had its participation confirmed in next year’s edition, as it was eliminated in the group stage of the Paulista championship.

Despite not yet having guaranteed their place in the Copa do Brasil at the state level, Corinthians can still guarantee their classification via the Brazilian Championship. Botafogo was the last Serie A club to stamp its passport after beating Boavista, 2-0, in the Rio Cup final. Review below.

According to the competition regulations, 80 places are allocated for the state competitions. The other 12 are accounted for by the nine first placed in Series A, in addition to the champion of the Copa do Nordeste, Copa Verde and Série B of the Brazilian Championship – these clubs enter directly into the third phase of the Copa do Brasil.

In this year’s edition, the competition is in the third phase. The duels will be defined through a draw. The National Club Ranking (RNC) of the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) is used to determine the division of teams in the pots. Remember the teams classified for the third phase this year.

• Pot 1: Flamengo, Palmeiras, São Paulo, Athletico-PR, Atlético-MG, Corinthians, Fluminense, Grêmio, Fortaleza, Internacional, Bahia, Botafogo, Bragantino, Atlético-GO, Ceará and Cuiabá.
• Pot 2: Goiás, Vasco, Juventude, Sport, CRB, Vitória, Criciúma, Sampaio Corrêa, Operário-PR, Botafogo-SP, Brusque, Ypiranga-RS, América-RN, Amazonas, Águia de Marabá and Sousa.

As of their presence in the third phase, all clubs, regardless of division, will receive the same participation quota. Thus, qualifying for the round of 16 is worth a prize of R$3.465 million.
