Carlos Alcaraz admitted, in a press conference, that he did not compete in the best conditions in this year’s edition of the Madrid Masters 1000where he fell in front of Andrey Rublev this Wednesday (1st), in the quarterfinals. The Spaniard, who celebrates his 21st birthday on Sunday, admits that he arrived in the Spanish capital with many doubts and that reaching this stage was already a good result.

“The day before playing here in Madrid I didn’t know if I would make it. I would have signed immediately to lose in three sets in the quarterfinals against Rublev. The round of 16 game took its toll and today I woke up full of body aches. Plus, I have the flu and none of that helped. I have to continue recovering physically and my confidence. I will go to Rome to try to improve, but I will still play with protection (on my forearm).”he explained.

Alcaraz detailed a little more about his arm problem. “I have a long way to go. Every time I’m going to throw a right I think about my arm, whether I’m going to have pain, whether I’m going to get injured. I want to go to Rome and have less of that on my mind. I sincerely hope to be in a position to play at my best level and I believe I can do so.”

I fell in love with tennis in the epic 2001 Roland Garros final between Jennifer Capriati and Kim Clijsters and I never let go of a sport that always seemed very special to me. The love for journalism and tennis grew side by side. I joined Bola Amarela in 2008, even before going to college, and the site never left my life. I worked at Record and since 2018 you can also hear me commenting on everything about the little yellow ball on Sport TV. I’ve already had the honor of covering ‘on site’ three of the four Grand Slams (I’m only missing Australia!), the ATP Masters 1000 in Madrid, the Davis Cup Finals, many Portuguese qualifiers in the competition and, of course, 13 (!) editions of the Estoril Open. I’m getting old… Email: [email protected]
