Drunk, player crashes car into fuel pump after celebrating title; watch | Sport

Rio – Midfielder Tiago Palacios, from Estudiantes-ARG, was arrested hours after winning the Argentine League Cup with the La Plata team. Drunk, the 23-year-old player crashed his vehicle into a gas station fuel pump in Buenos Aires after leaving the celebration party for the cup.

Palacios was taken to the Highway Department for “minor injuries due to negligence” and “driving under the influence of alcohol”. According to the local press, the breathalyzer test showed that the athlete had 1.84 grams per liter of alcohol in his blood, more than three times the limit allowed in Argentina, which is 0.5 grams. He was released, but will be disqualified from driving for a year and will be charged with causing minor injuries through negligence.

The party celebrating Estudiantes’ title went on throughout the night. At around 2am, Palacios shared a recording on his social networks where appeared next to a teammate with a large bucket of drink.

Estudiantes’ title came last Sunday, against Vélez Sarsfield. The La Plata team came out on top in the penalty shootout.
