An accident between a bus and a truck complicates traffic on BR-040, near Bairro Jardim Canada, in Nova Lima, in the Metropolitan Region of Belo Horizonte, on the morning of this Monday (1/4). The crash took place at km 534, close to the Federal Highway Police (PRF) station, towards BH. Three people were rescued in serious condition and taken to João XXIII Hospital.
The truck driver reported to the Fire Department that he was on the highway when a passenger car suddenly braked and he also braked to avoid an impact. The bus driver, who was following behind, was unable to stop in time and crashed into the back of the truck.
As a result of the crash, the truck was thrown off the road and stopped in the vegetation on the BR side road. The bus carried 43 passengers and two drivers. Among the three people who were rescued, a 44-year-old woman was trapped between the benches and had to be removed by fire crews. In addition to her, two more victims were taken to João XXIII Hospital.
During the response to the incident, the highway was partially closed, with only one lane open towards BH.
At around 9am, the track was reopened. There is 11 km of slowdown at the site.
