The Government of Mato Grosso applied R$2.3 million in fines to combat environmental crimes during the first two months of 2024. In total, 28 operations were coordinated by the State Secretariat for the Environment (Sema-MT), in partnership with the Military Police (PMMT) and the Military Police Battalion for Environmental Protection (BPMPA).

Between January and February, inspection teams embargoed 16 thousand hectares against illegal deforestation. The Week responded to 372 deforestation alerts and issued 660 infraction notices.
