In February, according to the General Register of Employed and Unemployed Persons (Caged), Bahia generated 6,249 formal jobs, resulting from the difference between 79,199 admissions and 72,950 dismissals. This is the second month in a row with a positive balance. Thus, the February balance was higher than that of January (+3,299 jobs) and higher than that of the same month last year (+8,552 jobs).

With this result, the state now has 2,061,843 active CLT contracts, a variation of 0.30% on the previous month’s number. The state capital, Salvador, recorded a balance of 4,741 CLT jobs.

Under the responsibility of the Ministry of Labor and Employment, formal employment data was systematized by the Superintendency of Economic and Social Studies of Bahia (SEI), an agency linked to the Planning Secretariat of the State of Bahia (Seplan).

In the month, Brazil recorded a balance of 306,111 vacancies, while the Northeast registered 10,571 new positions – representing relative variations of 0.67% and 0.14% compared to the previous month’s stock, respectively. Among the country’s 27 federative units, only three did not report growth in CLT employment in February this year.

In absolute terms, with 6,249 new formal jobs, Bahia occupied the first position in the generation of jobs among the northeastern states in the month. Among the federative entities, it was in tenth place. In relative terms, with a percentage change of 0.30%, it ranked second in the Northeast.

Northeast – Regarding the generation of jobs, Bahia (+6,249 jobs) occupied the first position and was followed by the states of Ceará (+3,897 jobs), Pernambuco (+2,145 jobs), Sergipe (+1,579 jobs), Piauí (+ +533 CLT jobs), Rio Grande do Norte (+283 jobs), Paraíba (-9 jobs), Maranhão (-1,220 jobs) and Alagoas (-2,886 jobs).

From the point of view of the relative monthly variation in stock, the state of Sergipe (+0.48%) was the highlight of the northeastern region, followed by Bahia (+0.30%), Ceará (+0.29%), Piauí (+0.15%), Pernambuco (+0.15%), Rio Grande do Norte (+0.06%), Paraíba (-0.00%), Maranhão (-0.19%) and Alagoas (- 0.65%).

In the aggregate of the first two months of 2024, taking into account the adjusted series, which incorporates information declared after the deadline, Bahia filled 9,548 new vacancies, an increase of 0.47% in relation to the total number of CLT positions at the beginning of the year. The municipality of Salvador, in turn, registered 10,751 new jobs in the period. Growth in CLT employment was also observed in Brazil and the Northeast in the year to date, with 474,614 and 19,536 new vacancies, respectively.

Still in terms of accumulated balance in the year, the Bahian federative unit continued ahead of the others in the Northeast, with Ceará (+5,297 jobs) and Pernambuco (+3,798 jobs) in second and third positions. In proportional terms, Bahia, with an increase of 0.47% in the year, was in second place within the northeastern region, behind only Sergipe (0.74%).

In Bahia, in February, four of the five major groups of economic activities recorded a positive balance of CLT jobs. The Services segment (+3,114 vacancies) was the one that generated the most jobs among the sectors.

Next, Agriculture, livestock, forestry production, fishing and aquaculture (+1,257 jobs), Construction (+884 jobs), General industry (+839 jobs) and Commerce; repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles (+155 jobs) were also responsible for generating jobs in the aforementioned month.
