Suspects of shooting a farmer and breaking into a house are arrested in the interior of Roraima | Roraima

Two men, aged 53 and 35, were arrested this Wednesday (24) on suspicion of shooting to death farmer Jânio Bonfim de Souza, aged 57. They were arrested for murder and attempted murder against the victim’s 50-year-old wife. The arrest took place in Cantá, in the interior of Roraima.

The woman is hospitalized in serious condition in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the General Hospital of Roraima (HGR) after being shot in the head and mouth. The crime occurred this Tuesday (23), in the Surrão neighborhood, in Cantá, when the suspects and two other accomplices invaded the victims’ house and shot at them.

They were rescued by a neighbor and taken to HGR. Jânio succumbed to his injuries and died this Wednesday. After the crime, police officers began investigations and discovered that the same witness who helped the couple was also threatened by the four men the day before.

The witness and the farmer had agreed to plant beans on part of the land. On Monday, the witness was looking at the place where they would plant the plantation when the four men arrived and one of them was armed with a 380 caliber pistol.

“They went to the property and found the witness who is a retired military police officer. They made the threat stating that the couple had invaded their land and, soon after, they left”, reported the municipality’s chief delegate Ronaldo Sciotti.

According to the witness, who even spoke to the farmer about the threats, he stated that the land belonged to him and was fully documented.

“The victim told this witness that he owned the land and that he had all the supporting documentation, but that he had previously received other threats from the suspects and even registered a police report about these threats”, said the delegate.

According to the delegate, investigations showed that the two men were in a store and bought ammunition and were also together when the victims had their land invaded and were shot.

Investigations are being carried out to locate the other two men who remain at large. After arrest, the suspects were interrogated by the police chief, accompanied by a lawyer, and used their constitutional right to only speak in court.

They were taken to the Forensic Medicine Institute (IML) where they underwent physical integrity examinations and will be presented this Thursday (25) at the Custody Hearing.
