After approval from UNESCO, the State plans a task force with tour operators to present Uberaba as a permanent tourist destination. Participation in 30 sector fairs is planned throughout this year to publicize the attractions of the new geopark.
According to vice-governor Mateus Simões (Novo), Uberaba is already an established destination for visitors during ExpoZebu and also on religious dates or events, but the intention is to expand the audience. “We need to transcend and make our geosites known as destinations for importing visitors”, he highlighted.
According to the deputy, the geopark has already been part of the Minas Gerais destinations presented at tourism sector fairs in Gramado and Portugal. Now the route should also be announced at WTM in São Paulo, next month, and at other scheduled events. “We need the tourist trade and tour operators to perceive Uberaba as a destination […] We will support this expansion by presenting the geopark as a destination at the fairs in Minas Gerais that are participating this year”, he said.
The state secretary of Tourism, Leônidas Oliveira, added that, in addition to being present at fairs, meetings must also be held with operators and specialized agencies. “We have to sell the project and put it on the shelf”, he concluded.
