The tax reform project sent to the National Congress on Wednesday (26) brings significant measures for the health sector, providing tax exemption for 383 medicines and vaccines, including those immunizing against covid-19, dengue and fever Yellow. In addition, it proposes to reduce the rate by 60% for another 850 medicines.

According to Agência Brasil, among the medicines covered by exemption are essential vaccines such as those against covid-19, dengue, yellow fever, flu, cholera, polio and measles, in addition to fundamental substances such as insulin, used to treat diabetes, and the antiviral abacavir, indicated against HIV. Sildenafil citrate, used for erectile dysfunction, is also included in the exempt list.

Among the active ingredients that will have their rate reduced, the most notable are omeprazole, used to treat reflux and digestive ulcers, the anxiolytic lorazepam, the high blood pressure medication losartan, metformin, indicated for diabetes, the anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic and antirheumatic prednisone, and the sexual impotence medication tadalafil.

The complementary bill aims to regulate the collection of Value Added Tax (VAT), composed of the Contribution on Goods and Services (CBS), under the jurisdiction of the federal government, and the Tax on Goods and Services (IBS), under the responsibility of the states. and municipalities. The government expects to approve the text by the end of July in the Chamber of Deputies and by the end of the year in the Senate.
