‘Lost’ and Mega-Sena: corner with numbers from the series intrigues internet users

‘Would it be an omen for the winners not to take any flights?’ The question was asked by a Brazilian fan of the series Lost, shown between 2004 and 2010, after Mega-Sena contest 2720 drew, last Saturday (4), almost entirely the numbers that make up the character, Hugo Hurley , played by Jorge Garcia, millionaire. Result? 2,967 people hit the corner, with a prize of R$1,878.49 each.

In the plot, the numbers played were 4 – 8 – 15 – 16 – 23 – 42. Mega-Sena drew 8 – 15 – 16 – 23 – 42 – 43. Only the number 4 was replaced by 43. Nobody got all six right numbers and the prize was accumulated at R$37 million. In addition to the 2,967 people who matched five numbers, 6,884 people also matched just four numbers and won R$809.63.

“So many people play these numbers that Quina gave away just over R$1,800 reais, with more than 2,800 winners on the quina, when the average for contests is 80-100 people winning”, wrote an internet user;

In the series, the numbers do not really represent the character Hugo’s luck, since, after winning the lottery, a series of tragic events occur in his life. At other times, the numbers even appear again in the plot.

“If this person is smart, they won’t even seek this award”, joked one internet user. “I hope no one spends the money on a plane ticket,” wrote another.

In the series, Oceanic Airlines Flight 815 is the central piece, since its crash is precisely the event that gives rise to the plot.

Despite the coincidence, it is not possible to identify how many people in total were awarded due to the Lost numbers, even though five of these numbers came out in order, nor even to know how many bettors included the numbers in different combinations.

However, the feat still draws attention because, according to journalist Vitor Sergio Rodrigues, the number of corner winners was 50 times greater than previously recorded. In the last 10 draws, the largest number of registered winners was 145 bettors.
