After the Court’s decision, the Ministry of Education and the State and Municipal Departments of Education will be ordered to demonstrate interest or not in the bibliographic collection of the former UniverCidade da Lagoa, South Zone of Rio.
At least three library rooms are abandoned and the books are exposed to climate action and rapid deterioration.
On the 20th, judge Caroline Rossy Brandao Fonseca, from the 7th Business Court of Rio de Janeiro, accepted real estate lawyer Gabriel Britto’s request for the government to give the study material a dignified destination.
According to Britto, the books can help students or even go to used bookstores for resale. Citizens will also be able to show interest in purchasing the books.
To show interest in the books, you must contact the judicial administrators via email: [email protected] and [email protected]. The way in which the selection and distribution will be carried out has not been announced.
Last year, Britto noticed that the store’s windows had been stolen and part of the building had been vandalized. Due to the lack of windows, the books were exposed to rain and sun.
“There are shelves full of books, sources of education and knowledge, in an evident state of abandonment, in a neighborhood that has one of the most expensive square meters in Rio”, he highlights.
