Rio Grande do Norte witnessed the best February in the last seven years in terms of tourist flow. The data was collected from a survey carried out by Empresa Potiguar de Promoção Turística (Emprotur), which informed AGORA RN that, among the main factors for the increase, are the summer season, the state’s tourism promotion in other regions and carnival events, which prolonged the increase in January, according to the entity.
“The continuous promotional work carried out in recent years has placed the destination as one of the most sought after in Brazil for the summer season. Carnival at the beginning of February was like an extension of the January high, which further stimulated sales for the destination, which reinvents itself every year in carnival schedules, seeking to strengthen this festive date”, said director of tourism promotion from Emprotur, Nayara Santana.
Among the initiatives carried out by the Company, it cites maintaining contacts with partners in the sector, presence at events and actions that seek innovation, and which result in campaigns to increase sales in the Rio Grande do Sul territory as a tourist destination.
This March, Emprotour was present at the Infinitas Roadshow, which took place in the city of Santiago, Chile, and in Buenos Aires and Córdoba, Argentina. Emprotour’s presence at the event reinforces the promotion of Rio Grande do Norte tourism in the South American market, one of the main target audiences for Rio Grande do Norte tourism, and aims to strengthen the destination of Rio Grande do Norte in strategic markets.
According to Nayara, with the arrival of the end of the high season, during the month of March, tourism promotion actions in the state must be intensified to maintain the good numbers achieved by the sector, which plans to at least maintain last year’s average or increase.
“Monitoring and monitoring this information allows us to intensify actions seeking to continue the positive numbers. We always try to ensure that we are prepared to receive tourists all year round, the summer seasons fluctuate every year, this shows that the profile of people who travel also follows this characteristic. There are still months considered low, but we work to ensure that events that generate tourist flow compensate for the expected demand”, stated the director of tourism promotion.

HOTEL CHAIN. The increase in hotel occupancy and passenger flow at the State’s airport also attest to the progress of the Rio Grande do Sul tourism sector in relation to recent years. In the month of February, Rio Grande do Norte recorded the best performance in the last seven years in relation to the number of tourists disembarking at Aluízio Alves airport, the data was collected by the Rio Grande do Norte Tourist Intelligence System (Sírio), which revealed a promising outlook for the sector.
Abdon Gosson, president of the Brazilian Association of the Hotel Industry of RN (ABIH-RN), highlighted that hotel occupancy in the state during the high season period was also positive and above expectations, the president remains optimistic for occupancy numbers hotel sector in the coming months compared to the same period last year. “The expectation for the coming months is that the occupancy numbers from last year will remain at least similar. We will now face a low season after Holy Week and it is a more difficult period for the flow of tourists here in our destination. We hope that we will have a similar or better occupancy than in previous years”, declared the president of ABIH.
For the president of ABIH, investing in projects to preserve local nature and sustainability can be a step towards the future of tourism in Rio Grande do Norte, increasing the flow of tourism in the state, “We need to increasingly improve this experience and make tourists feel increasingly immersed within this context of nature destination, nature itself and this preservation where tourists circulate already sets this tone of sustainability, so it is very important”, highlighted Abdon.
He also highlighted that, from a tourist point of view, Rio Grande do Norte is recognized as a sustainable destination, offering immersive experiences in nature to visitors, and with great potential for the ecotourism segment. The region stands out as it is known for offering sun and sea practically all year round.
