Red Bull boss Christian Horner reinforced the importance of the ‘collective’ to the team’s success, following news that Adrian Newey is considering leaving the team after the end of the 2024 Formula 1 season.

According to rumors, Newey is considering stepping down as Red Bull Technical Chief because he is dissatisfied with the investigation into Horner’s conduct, and the internal power struggle.

The 65-year-old Briton has been with the team for almost two decades and designed the cars that won six drivers’ titles and seven constructors’ titles.

This includes Red Bull’s dominance since the return of ground-effect cars to F1 in 2022, with last season’s RB19 winning all but one race.

However, Red Bull’s continued success could be interrupted by the departure of the series’ most decorated designer, who could move to another team, probably Ferrari or Aston Martin.

But with Newey having stepped aside temporarily to focus on other ventures in the past, Horner explained how Red Bull has evolved from being dependent on a single individual.

“We have always had progress in our team, nothing stands still,” he told the press over the weekend in China. “Nothing stays the same forever, but we’ve had enormous continuity.”

“Paul Monaghan received the trophy (in China) and has been with us for 19 years. We have always had great stability, but at the same time, we continue to develop great talent within the team. If you think about engineers like Rocky (Guillaume Rocquelin), who won all those championships with Sebastian (Vettel), he still works with us,” said Horner.

“He is on a different project, but he is still within our company. Simon Rennie still works for the team. There are many engineers and designers. We’ve always had tremendous stability, but of course, it’s not just about one or two individuals, it’s about the collective,” he added.

Newey’s possible departure would increase the responsibility on technical director Pierre Wache, head of aerodynamics Enrico Balbo, and chief engineers Monaghan and Ben Waterhouse.
