Daniel Alves: Statue of the former player will be removed from Juazeiro at the request of MP-BA

On recommendation of the Public Ministry of Bahia (MP-BA)Juazeiro city hall will remove the statue Daniel Alves, located in the center of the municipality.

The former player, born in the city of Bahia, was sentenced to 4 and a half years in prisonin Spain, for rape and is on provisional release pending a final judgment.

The statue was installed at the site in 2020 and will be removed after protests by local residentsespecially on social media, after Daniel’s conviction.

The city hall informed that the work will be collected in the next few days, in accordance with Law No. 6,454/1977, which governs the use of public resources for monuments of living people.

The statue, produced by the artist Leo Santana, has real size and shows Daniel Alves with the Brazilian national team shirt and a soccer ball.

Since the former player’s preventive arrest, the monument has been target of vandalism numerous times, including graffiti and coverings with black bags and white stains.

Court refuses victim’s request and keeps Daniel free

The Barcelona Court refused, on April 11, the requests to cancel the habeas corpus of former player Daniel Alves made by the Spanish Public Prosecutor’s Office and the victim’s defense.

With this, the former Barcelona and Brazilian national team defender remains free. He was sentenced to four and a half years in prison for raping a young woman in a nightclub.

Daniel Alves left prison after paying bail of one million euros (R$5.4 million).
