Being a first-time mother, even with information, still brings a world of new experiences, good and bad, for women. In Maria vai com os todos, from Universa, actress Maria Flor, who is the mother of little Vicente, says that she came to think that she would not be able to take care of her own son.
For the first three months I thought I was going crazy. I said: ‘I’m not going to make it’. He only breastfed, he woke up every hour. I didn’t sleep for three months. Maria Flor, actress
A mother approaching 40, the actress noticed the changes that pregnancy generated in her body and in her self-knowledge. A mix between recognizing herself as an older woman, and at the same time, generating a new life.
I was an older mother. When I turned 40, I had a one and a half year old baby. I’ve been discovering which mother I could be, I continue to discover, still very much in the crisis of motherhood. Maria Flor, actress
Being a stepmother is very different from being a mother, says Maria Flor
Before being Vicente’s mother, Maria Flor is Martim’s stepmother, her husband Emanuel’s son from another relationship. The relationship between the actress and her stepson began when he was three years old. Despite having this experience with the child, Maria Flor says that motherhood is something else:
Being a stepmother is very different from being a mother […] Being a mother is another challenge. You’re the one there waking up at dawn and stuff. Maria Flor, actress
With Vicente’s birth, Maria Flor’s relationship with her stepson improved, but, in the beginning, building the bond between the two was work for the whole family. “It was difficult for me, for him, for Emanuel. It was a huge adjustment”says the actress.
