After unions requested improvements to BRs 174 and 401, the National Department of Infrastructure and Transport (DNIT) in Roraima announced that three of them were already underway. In a conversation with FolhaBV, superintendent Igo Brasil clarified the state of the highways.

The eight union associations in Roraima had asked for improvements to km 100 of BR 401, in Normandia, and the recovery of the head of the Tacutu river bridge; in addition to mowing the shoulder of the Waimiri Atroari indigenous reserve, on BR 174, and the application of a scale at the Jundiá checkpoint that operates 24 hours a day.

“All the problems they presented are very old, but these three, in the last six months, we are already committed to solving,” said Brasil.

“The Tacutu river bridge, on BR-401, is under construction. We are building the piles to extend the bridge. Regarding the maintenance of this highway, an earthmoving service also began last week in anticipation of the start of winter, the flow of the harvest and I even spoke with Mayor Raposo”,

concluded the superintendent about the highway that gives access to the municipality of Normandia.

Regarding the reduction of the forest on the sides of BR 174, within the Waimiri Atroari indigenous reserve, Igo Brasil stated that it had scheduled a meeting with the authorities in the area. However, you must wait for authorization to carry out the service on site.

“The point is that you cannot touch any tree without prior authorization on the indigenous reserve. In the same period last year [a rodovia] it was almost impassable. The trucks were doing [o trecho] in four hours. Not just because of the antlers, but also because the road was completely broken. Today the road is perfect within the reserve in terms of pavement, but the issue of antlers is something that is beyond our control”, he explained.

Scales at Jundiá and return on the Ring Road

The construction of a return on the Ring Road was a new request, according to the DNIT superintendent in Roraima. With this, Igo informed that a project will be started and a study into the feasibility of implementation will be carried out by the Department.

The fixed scale at the Jundiá Tax Station, in Rorainópolis, was also the request that will be analyzed. “I told them [sindicatos] that the project had already been taken to Brasília and we are waiting for authorization to place a scale from DNIT. There is a scale there, but it doesn’t operate for weight control,” she detailed.

Serra Maria Ceará

The downgrade of Serra Maria Ceará on BR 174, in Amazonas, was also a request from the eight union associations in Roraima. However, Igo made it clear that it is not the responsibility of the Department in the state, but that he had already spoken with the DNIT of Amazonas about the situation.
