MCs bring art and culture onto DF buses

-

To make public transport users break out of their work and study routine, MCs from the Federal District had the idea of going to public transport, bringing art and culture to each passenger. Clapping and laughter were the most common reactions. To the Mail passengers highlight the benefits that these presentations have, such as distraction and culture. Furthermore, they say that it is something that boosts anyone’s self-esteem.

The desire to share Hip Hop lyrics, bring art to students and workers, in addition to the need to earn a few bucks, led Morpheus to rhyme in collectives. “It’s a motivating activity, few people from the periphery and the proletariat have the possibility of enjoying minutes of art in their routine. As a street artist, I feel like I carry a mirror for people to see in themselves the humanity that routine and the cruel system take from each one”, he reflects.

He says he practically lives inside the buses and always seeks to bring happiness and dignity to passengers. “This objective is renewed every day. Our work is recognized by those who listen with their hearts. Because it is a marginalized culture, many people see it as a situation of risk, humiliation or even violence. But, those who listen With your heart you know that a rhymer on the street has the same intention as a composer of classical music. Art came to save and permeate between reality and feeling. the eyes and ears of the heart. Art is as strong and necessary as the other things in life”, he summarizes.

The jokes and rhymes are for all audiences. MC Morfeu changed his name from Maria dos Santos, 80 years old, to Penélope Charmosa, who was impressed by the artist’s work. “I give it the highest value, I’ve never seen work like this. In my point of view, they should continue, the artist should appear and be seen. I was delighted, they only praised me. Even my umbrella received praise”, she jokes .

“Sometimes our day is so tiring and busy and they managed to take a smile off my face. It’s so worth it, I had a wonderful distraction, I got out of the routine, out of the sameness”, points out Maria. One of dozens of public transport users who had fun and applauded Morpheus and his work partner.

Relaxation

Daend, Morpheus’ work partner, was another who entered this world with the aim of raising money and bringing entertainment, relaxation and culture to those who don’t have access. “People don’t always have headphones, a cell phone, a book or a notebook when traveling. Interacting with the rhyme is a lot of fun. Because of this, I see my activity as a public service for people”, he describes.

Listeners feel lighter and happier, says Daend. “A few months ago, a passenger got off in a place she wouldn’t get off to thank us and talk to us, as she had never felt so light on a journey. It was very interesting, she even asked us to continue. Every time we receive compliments like these , in addition to seeing the smile on everyone’s face, it’s a feeling of duty”, he reveals.

During the journey home, Ryan Marques, 19 years old, watched the presentation and loved it. “It’s a very beautiful work, I really admire the people who have these initiatives. Sometimes, we are discouraged and, after the presentation, we laugh and relax. They praise the users and joke about some things, that’s incredible”, he comments.

Marques said he loved the game the boys played. “I thought the work was more beautiful than Grazi Massafera, but not more beautiful than my girlfriend”, he jokes. He said that people don’t know the true meaning of this art. “There is a lot of prejudice around this culture, it is not something criminal as many people think”, he informs.

Lightness

The art of rhyming is something important and must remain alive within the culture of the Brazilian people. This is how Ana Klara Oliveira, 23, evaluates it. “It’s a way of valuing street artists. I have a lot of fun when they have this courage and boldness to bring the movement to collectives. I’ve seen this several times and I’ve always liked it. I love this form of relaxation”, he highlights.

Researching more about the history of rhymes and how this movement works would be a way of removing prejudice against this activity, comments Ana. “It’s not something marginal and wrong, this could save the lives of many people who are involved in the wrong way, without to say that it’s the bread and butter of many who are in this movement — they rhyme. They play in a way that improves self-esteem and each person’s day,” he said.

The desire to see art expressed in any environment was what led Slender, as he likes to be called, to rhyme within collectives and combine comings and goings on public transport to work. “On the buses, I often see mechanized people, they leave home feeling sleepy, go to work and return tired and worried. At the time of the rhyme they forget all this, we don’t offer anything tangible and material, but it’s something that will remain marked in everyone’s memory”, he emphasizes.

Slender remembers that he once opened the smile of a father who has a son who also rhymes on buses and who no longer lives in Brasília. “It was another one that I took away from the robotic routine. I feel like I achieved my goals in terms of using art as a means of communication and expression of feelings. Every day is a different happiness bomb, whether with children, adults and the elderly Every reception we have is different. Making other people’s lives less complicated is what I’ve always sought”, he says.
