Fallout: TV series once again demonstrated the inferiority complex of video games in relation to cinema

Is Prime Video’s Fallout TV series selling Bethesda too many games? At this point, yes, it is worth remembering that the video game series was the first to sell the television series. The move to Amazon’s video streaming service will certainly have attracted a new audience to video games, but in this case we are not talking about a small intellectual property that is driven by the success of a derivative product, but rather about a true giant already consecrated before arriving on the small screen. It’s therefore surprising that much of the series’ success comes from Fallout itself – obviously.

It is true that nowadays all the games in the saga are selling well, but we cannot forget that they have always been successes. To know: Fallout 4 was released on November 10, 2015 and sold 1.2 million copies in 24 hours. On the day of launch it reached 470 thousand simultaneous players on Steam – reocrde at the time. Bethesda shipped 12 million physical copies from console versions to stores. At the time there was talk of revenues of 750 million dollars during the launch period. Pete Hines, former communications manager at Bethesda, later stated that over an equivalent period of time, Fallout 4 sold more copies than The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrimone of the best-selling role-playing games of all time.

Over the past few days, Fallout 4 has gotten a few thousand new reviews on Steam (less than 10,000) thanks to the recent boom in sales. A trifle compared to the more than 200 thousand that he has accumulated in recent years. We also want to add that we are talking about the second most modified game of all time, after Skyrim, Nexus Mods has more than 48,000 mods available for download. After all, the Fallout video game series has been a huge inspiration for many other development studios.

Another example of this success is paradoxically Fallout 76, which certainly didn’t make the same numbers, but if it hadn’t been the product of such a strong intellectual property, it would hardly have survived and prospered after the disastrous launch that overwhelmed it.

Well, the quote-unquote Fallout series wins hands down because it’s a brand that doesn’t have a real main protagonist, a specific villain, and a basic story. The important thing is that it takes place in that world and many stories can emerge from that. Although, we also had something similar thanks to Baldur’s GateI remind you that the world, the lore, the legends, the monsters, the races, the cities and much more are not the work of Larian Studios, but rather the Dungeon’s and Dragons manuals that he took with both hands and made a great game above.
So in my opinion the success of the series is precisely that, unlike Resident Evil or similar, it is not obliged to follow any character and anyone who is also a fan of the product can easily enjoy it.

With this I don’t want to diminish the Prime Video series, which is well made and very beautiful (watch it if you haven’t watched it yet, because it’s worth it), but I would like someone to clearly say that if it has had such a resonance it’s not just because of its qualities, but also because it is the result of an excellent series of games since its first game.
