Flu vaccine

The influenza vaccination campaign began on Monday for people aged 60 and over, children from six months to under 6 years of age, pregnant women, women who have recently given birth – up to 45 days postpartum -, quilombolas and indigenous people. The supply restriction occurs due to the quantity of doses received by the Municipal Health Department (SMS). D-Day will be on April 13th and the application of doses will last until May 31st.

With immunization, the Ministry of Health intends to reduce complications, hospitalizations and deaths resulting from influenza virus infections in the target population. The objective is to vaccinate at least 90% of each of the priority groups.

In Porto Alegre, the estimated target audience eligible to receive the vaccine is 697,995 people, with the elderly being the largest number: 292,260. The vaccine offered by the Unified Health System (SUS) is trivalent, guaranteeing protection against the Influenza A H3N1 and H3N2 and Influenza B viruses.

For next week, the plan is to also offer the dose to health workers at all levels, public and private, education workers, from basic to higher education, people with comorbidities and special clinical conditions of all ages from of six months, people with disabilities, teenagers and young people (12 to 21 years old) undergoing socio-educational measures, prison system employees and people deprived of liberty.

In the last stage, in the third week of the campaign, members of the security and rescue forces, Armed Forces, truck drivers, urban public transport workers and port workers join the first groups.
