Tributes, Baja California, Mexico
Mexico’s surfing community has come together in mourning and protest after Australian brothers Callum and Jake Robinson, and their American friend Jack Carter Rhoad, in Baja California. They were murdered during a trip along the coast of Ensenada.
The bodies were found in a well close to the place where they were last seen and have already been identified by their families. Suspects of the crime were arrested.
In response to the tragedy, the community gathered for a tribute, where they made a circle in the water, a traditional ritual to celebrate the lives of surfers.
In addition to the tribute, local residents also protested against the violence, lack of security and inactivity of authorities in the region. At the protests, posters with phrases such as “they just wanted to surf” expressed indignation and grief.
