A tragedy struck a family in Oklahoma, United States, this week. On Monday (22), a 10-year-old boy woke up to discover that his father murdered his brothers and mother before killing himself. Authorities were called to the residence by the child himself, who reported that “everyone inside the house appeared to be dead.”

According to police, 42-year-old Jonathon Candy shot his wife, 39-year-old Lindsay Candy, after the two “got involved in an altercation.” He then went after his oldest children – Dylan, 18, Ethan, 14, and Lucas, 12 – and then committed suicide.

Upon waking up, around 9:30 am, and coming across the horror scene, the minor, who was not identified, called emergency services. “Police received a 911 call from a 10-year-old child inside the residence indicating that everyone inside the home appeared to be dead. Make no mistake about it. What happened inside that residence was nothing short of a massacre.”said Gary Knight of the Police Department at a press conference.

After further investigation, authorities determined that the couple’s fight may have been instrumental in the murder, but did not define the exact motive for the crime. “At that point, he was shooting at the whole house and killing his children.”Knight said. “These children were hunted down and killed”, he added. He also stated that at least one of the victims was killed while still in bed.

Meanwhile, the survivor was unharmed and placed in the custody of relatives. “We don’t know why he was unharmed. That’s the question everyone asks. This is the question we also have. In the end, no one will ever have the answer to this“reinforced the police officer.

Knight also made a point of highlighting that no history of domestic violence by Jonathon was identified. “It was a horrible thing for everyone, and it was certainly more horrible for the young man who woke up to find the carnage.”concluded the officer.

In a statement, the victims’ family released a statement saying they were “broken and confused”. “Our entire family was left shattered and confused with so many questions that we will never have answers to. Jonathon was the one whose jokes and goofy attitude kept everyone smiling. Apart from these events, his children and his wife represented his entire life. We simply cannot understand what happened, but please hug your family tightly. It will be a very long healing process for everyone affected.”finished the text.
