Imagine the following situation: you work in a bar and, out of kindness, offer a free drink to a customer. However, this small act of kindness causes the woman to become deeply obsessed with you and start chasing you everywhere. This is the story of Baby Reindeer, a dramatic comedy and suspense miniseries – based on a true story! – which is among the biggest highlights on Netflix this week.

In addition to the impeccable performances of Richard Gadd (Donny) and Jessica Gunning (Martha), another great highlight of the production is Nava Mau, interpreter of Teri. After meeting Donny on a dating app, the therapist becomes the protagonist’s love interest, but their relationship starts to be shaken by the insistent stalker.

Nava was born in Mexico City and graduated in Linguistics and Cognitive Sciences from Pomona College, one of the leading liberal arts colleges in the United States. A trans woman, Mau is an activist for the rights of the LGBTQIAP+ community and is working on an anthology titled Paradise on the Margins: Worldmaking by Trans Women of Color.

Director, actress and producer, she is best known for her work on HBO’s Generation, and the short films Work and Waking Hour, shown at several festivals. Now, with Baby Rena, Nava has reached the spotlight around the world, and highlighted the importance of her role in Digital Spy:

It felt really important to show people that trans women exist in real life and in relationships with real people. I could see Richard’s heart [Gadd] in the script and I hope people see that too
