Recent pressure movements against the race to electrify vehicles in Europe and the United States place Brazil in a more comfortable position in the decarbonization process in the transport sector. Until recently seen as late for not opting for the production of electric vehicles in the first instance, the country is now calm about its defense, from the beginning, of a transition with hybrid cars.
They weighed in favor of flex hybrid, the fact that the vehicle can be fueled with ethanol, a renewable fuel used for over 40 years in Brazil and whose production boosts the agricultural sector. On the other hand, the 100% electric car brought with it discussions about battery recycling and the need to increase the extraction of raw materials, such as lithium and aluminum.

At the Brazil, eighth largest on the list of manufacturers, most automakers supported the flex hybrid. The decision to prioritize this type of car also allowed companies to maintain part of their manufacturing facilities.
