FromSoftware officially shut down the servers for Dark Souls 2 and Armored Core: Verdict Day this past weekend. The company had already stated at the end of last year that it would shut them down on the last day of March, giving players just over three months to say goodbye.

The closure of the servers for Dark Souls 2 and Armored Core: Verdict Day means that players who were still using online features of these two titles on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 are now no longer able to do so. Either way, it is still possible to use functions that do not require a connection.

Therefore, anyone who was used to finding some surviving friends in cooperative or invasion mode will need to find another way to have fun with the franchise from now on.

Launched in March 2014, the game proved to be quite divisive due to issues such as its difficulty, story and, mainly, its game design. Directed by Tomohiro Shibuya and Yui Tanimura, the game was solely supervised by Hidetaka Miyazaki, whom many consider to be primarily responsible for the franchise’s success.

Good news for Dark Souls 2 players: Scholar of the First Sin

However, it is important to pay attention to an important detail regarding the second game in the franchise. As much as FromSoftware has closed the DarkSouls 2 servers, the same does not apply to Dark Souls II: Scholar Of The First Sin, which continues to operate normally on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Scholar of the First Sin was released by FromSoftware as an “enhanced version” of the title, which features all previously released DLC, updated graphics, new multiplayer capabilities and several enemy repositionings. This way, users of more modern consoles will still be able to enjoy the classic of the genre.

Players of older titles are unfortunately witnessing frequent shutdowns of game servers released for past console generations. Recently, Ubisoft announced the closure of The Crew servers.
