Max Verstappen surprised by downplaying the drama surrounding Adrian Newey’s departure from Red Bull in the 2025 Formula 1 season. The Dutch driver believes that Red Bull’s technical team is strong enough to maintain competitiveness even without the legendary designer.

Newey announced his departure from Red Bull earlier this week after 19 years contributing to the team’s success. Verstappen recognizes Newey’s importance, but highlights the work of the entire team.

“Of course Adrian has been crucial to Red Bull’s success since he arrived,” said Verstappen. “Over time, his role changed, and many people don’t understand what he really did. But the team has grown a lot technically in recent years. I would prefer him to stay, for sure. But I trust the technical team we have a lot. They have shown this in recent years with the competitiveness of the car.”

Verstappen also revealed that he did not try to convince Newey to change his mind. According to the Dutchman, it is important to respect each person’s decision.

“I don’t need to convince anyone. If someone wants to leave, they should leave,” she said. “He gave a lot to the team, he deserved to seek a new challenge.”

Newey’s departure sparked rumors about Verstappen’s future, but the driver denied he was considering other teams. According to him, Red Bull offers the best car to fight for the title.

“We need to have the fastest car. That’s what I’ve always covered and that’s what we’ve had for a few years now. We have a strong technical team that will continue with us. Let’s move on”, concluded the Dutchman.
