Ana Paula Vergutz secured, this Thursday (25), the fifth place in Brazilian canoeing for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games (K1 500m). The achievement came through the silver medal at the Pan-American Canoe Sprint Championships and Olympic Qualifiers of the Americas 2024, held in Florida, in the United States. Ana Paula covered the 500 meters in 1min52s881, came in second place and got her passport stamped for Paris!

In the final of the K1 500m, the Brazilian finished behind only the Argentine Brenda Rojas, who completed the course in 1min51s376, both guaranteed the Olympic quota. Daylen Rodriguez, from Cuba, crossed the finish line in less than a second behind Ana Paula, and came in third place but without a place in Paris. This is 35-year-old Ana Paula Vergutz’s first qualification for the Olympic Games. She joins Valdenice as the first Brazilians to qualify in the canoe and kayak, respectively, for the competition. This will be the second Olympics that Ana Paula participates in. In Rio 2016, the Brazilian internally won the place that was already assured for the country.

“Another Olympic place for Brazil. I am very happy, and I want to thank everyone who followed this journey of hard work until this classification.” Ana Paula Vergutz celebrated.
