Domenicali fires at Alonso and Verstappen after criticism

When asked about complaints, the F1 leadership seems unwilling to listen to them, or at least that is what Domenicali suggests in a statement to Sky Sports F1.

“I see 24 as the ideal number for now. The good news for this year is that I have committed to the teams and promoters to announce the calendar much earlier than usual so everyone can prepare.”

When it was mentioned to Domenicali that veteran riders question the calendar and compare it with those of the past, the Italian left a very clear response, assuring that he does not force anyone to stay in the World Championship.

“I believe that 24 [GPs] be better than 12. I talk to the drivers, if they want to drive here, they can do it every day. If they don’t want to race here, they don’t have to.”

Domenicali believes that the drivers owe this to the fans, who want more race weekends to see their idols in action for longer during the year and, therefore, does not see the criticisms about the swelling of the calendar as correct.

“It’s a matter of respect for the fans, who want to see them compete. It’s something that is our responsibility, for all the fans, our partners, promoters, shareholders and intermediaries. It’s the magic of the sport that we live, because we need heroes who like what they do. And I guarantee you that they do.”
