More than 500 cattle were rescued from breeding farms in the last three days in the region of the municipality of Triunfo, in the metropolitan region of Porto Alegre, in Rio Grande do Sul. Images show the animals with water up to their necks.

The rescue was carried out by a service provider in the municipality of Triunfo, which served around 80 rural producers.

“On the last day I worked, there were around 100 head of cattle in a shed and we only managed to remove 80. Around 20 to 25 heads of cattle remained inside the shed and ended up being lost”, says Henrique Ramos, from the family that owns the company.

The businessman says that he came across a breeder who lost his entire batch of cattle.

“There are a lot of cattle confinements in the metropolitan region of Porto Alegre”, says Gabriel Santos, director of the Federation of Rural Salaried Workers of Rio Grande do Sul (Fetar). According to him, there are reports circulating in the region of “many animal losses”, but it is still difficult to quantify.

The difficulty for authorities and sector managers at the moment is to get in touch with rural producers, as the rains have interrupted telecommunications signals.
