The second day of main draw competitions had positive results for Brazilian tennis. In total, five won on the Lagoa Iate Clube courts and continue to compete in the men’s ATP Challenger 75 and women’s ITF W75 series tournament.

Carol Meligeni, Brazil’s number 3, debuted with a victory over North American Raveena Kingsley, 6/3 6/2, and is making plans to continue the tournament. “I think it was a solid performance on my part. She’s a difficult opponent, but I managed to hold off her shots and vary the game well. Now I’m going to rest and take care of my body with physiotherapy,” she explained.

For the director of the ATP Challenger tournament, Guilherme Gesser, this is a great result for Brazilian tennis. “Having Brazilian tennis players advancing in championships of this size and reaching even higher in the world rankings is exactly what we look for when we bring tournaments like this to Brazil”, highlighted the director.

Paulo Saraiva, Gabriel Sidney, Nicolas Zanelatto, Pedro Boscardin, Gustavo Almeida, Letícia Vidal and Julia Konishi were overcome and said goodbye to the ENGIE Open. The 3rd seed, Felipe Meligeni, felt unwell and withdrew from the tournament.

The competition continues, this Wednesday (3), with Brazilian highlights. Thiago Monteiro and Orlando Luz face each other again in another week in Brazil, when the gaucho beat the Ceará in the debut of the São Léo Open. Matheus Pucinelli has a duel with the Italian Gianluca Mager. In the women’s category, Carol Meligeni plays against Cypriot Raluca Serban, while Gabriela Cé faces Italian Miriana Tona.

In total, the ENGIE Open will distribute a total prize pool of US$ 142 thousand (around R$ 710 thousand at the current price), in addition to 75 points to the champion in the respective world rankings (ATP and WTA).

The two tournaments are part of the Banco BRB/ENGIE Professional Tennis Circuit and promote gender equality, with 12 competitions throughout the year, six for men and six for women.
