Hard rock and heavy metal originated in England in the 1970s — first with the holy trinity of Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple and Black Sabbath, and later with the new wave of British heavy metal, with names like Judas Priest, Diamond Head, Iron Maiden and Def Leppard.
