Riding on seven victories, the last two at middleweight, Michel Pereira comes with even greater motivation for the UFC Rio, which takes place next Saturday (4). Or rather, a “mission”, as he himself mentioned. On the main card of the event, the Brazilian will face the Ukrainian Ihor Potieriaan athlete who “left his mark” in the last edition of Ultimate in Rio de Janeiro, in January last year.

On that occasion, on the UFC 283 card, Ihor Potieria knocked out Brazilian legend Maurício Shogun in the first round, in a fight that marked the Curitiba native’s retirement. More than that, in addition to the knockout victory, the Ukrainian was accused of disrespecting Shogun for his celebration after the triumph, where he performed a dance while still inside the octagon.

Speaking to journalists last Wednesday (1st), at Media Day before UFC Rio, Michel Pereira spoke about the possibility of “avenging” Maurício Shogun next Saturday with a victory. Exuding good humor, the man from Pará also made it clear that he does not intend to make the Ukrainian a true “executioner” of Brazilians, or rather, a “torator of Brazilians”, as he himself mentioned.

“When he (Potieria) knocked out Shogun, then he did like a ‘dance’… Then he also beat Michel Trator, who is from Pará like me, he beat Shogun here (in Rio de Janeiro)… So, I feel It’s a mission to beat this guy, right? Because every time he comes here to ‘roast’ the Brazilian, he’s fucked up, right? So I’m going to have to arrive and ‘put the madman in him’, because if he arrives and beats me, then he’ll ‘chip’. Then he will be the ‘Brazilian fan’ (laughs). So let’s try to win this fight to take away this business of him coming to ‘torment’ the Brazilians here”, said Michel Pereira.
