Brazil and Colombia are tied for the U17 South American Championship

In the second round of the final quadrangular of the U-17 Women’s South American Championship, Brazil drew with Colombia by a score of 2 to 2. The result sent the country a place in the category’s World Cup, which will take place from the month of October, in the Dominican Republic.

After coming up 2-0 behind, the Brazilian team went for the result with goals from JuJu Harris and Myka. At the moment, Brazil leads the group with four points scored, due to the victory in the opening round against Ecuador. They will end their participation in the competition by facing Paraguay, the event’s home team, next Sunday (31), at 5pm.

The game

In the first few minutes, Colombia arrived well and the Brazilian defense cleared a dangerous ball in the small area. In the 16th minute, with a free kick, right-back Helô Baccan, from Brazil, took advantage of a free kick and hit the crossbar. Later, it was the turn of center forward and captain JuJu Harris to stop at the post, after a long-range shot. However, before the end of the opening half, defender Sofia committed a penalty in the 46th minute. Striker Nikol Rojas hit hard and opened the scoring for the Colombians.

At the beginning of the second half, Colombia increased their lead. Center forward Maithe López caught the rebound from goalkeeper Clara’s defense and made it 2-0. Even with the complicated situation, Brazil did not lose heart and continued to put pressure on the opposing team. Thus, in the 15th minute, the ball in the area after a corner, JuJu Harris controlled it well and shot into the corner to reduce it. In the next move, midfielder Myka took a long shot and scored, leaving everything equal at 2-2.

The confrontation remained very even in the following minutes, with many disputes for the ball in midfield. At the 37th minute mark, striker Giovanna Waksman received a cross from the right and headed it wide of the Colombian goal. Finally, goalkeeper Clara scored well on two occasions and secured a draw for the Brazilian team.
