Buenos Aires (Argentina) – Experiencing one of the worst phases of his career, Argentine Diego Schwartzman has been considering making some adjustments to maximize his calendar in 2024. With five defeats in five games in the current season, considering only main draws, the former top 8 and current 122nd of the ranking is thinking about skipping Roland Garros to try for a direct spot at Wimbledon.

According to him, it would be more advantageous to focus on preparing for the grass season than venturing into yet another exhausting qualifier. “If I have to play in the qualifiers, I don’t know if I will go to Roland Garros. I prefer to prepare to participate in Wimbledon. It took a lot for me to qualify for the Australian Open and it made me sick”, explained ‘El Peque’, who stopped at the start of the preliminary round in Melbourne.

With this, the Argentine’s idea is to try to gain as many points as possible by May 20th, which is the deadline for the ranking that defines entries for Wimbledon and also marks the beginning of Roland Garros qualifying. If he really gives up on going to Paris to dedicate himself to the transition to grass, he may choose to compete in smaller events. During the second week of the French Grand Slam, for example, the Surbiton challenger will be held, the only one in the category played on the original tennis surface. From the following week onwards, the entire circuit focuses on European grass tournaments prior to the London Major.
