An accident with a bus left seven dead and 29 injured on Saturday night (27), in Medina, in Vale do Jequitinhonha, in Minas Gerais. According to the Federal Highway Police (PRF), the vehicle with 54 people overturned on BR-116, in a place known as “Death Curve”.
Four of the victims (three women and one man) died at the scene. Three others were rescued and died during transport to the hospital.
The tourist bus left Caruaru in Pernambuco, heading to the capital of São Paulo. The point of the accident was at kilometer 90 of the highway.
The PRF reported that the driver of the vehicle lost control of the steering wheel, hit a protective wall on the side of the road, hit the shoulder and fell onto the road.
There were victims trapped in the wreckage, but the PRF did not say how many people. A dog that was transported in the collective’s luggage rack also died in the accident. The box carrying the animal was left lying on the side of the highway.
The track was reopened at 2:40 am today (28).
More deaths
Another serious accident was recorded this Sunday morning also on BR-116 in Minas Gerais. A crash between a bus and a passenger car in Frei Inocêncio left two dead and three injured.
The car the victims were in collided head-on with a bus and overturned. There were five people in the car, in addition to the fatal victims. Two women and a man were taken to the hospital with bruises.
According to police, the bus driver and passengers were not injured.
