Coach Bernardinho’s strategy – choosing for Sesc-Flamengo to play away from home in the first match of the quarter-finals – worked. Rubro-Negro, leader of the initial phase of the Superliga, defeated Barueri by 3 sets to 1 (25/15, 25/20, 20/25 and 25/17), this Wednesday, at Ginásio Sportville. The teams will meet again next Saturday (30), at 7pm, at the Tijuca Tênis Clube Gymnasium (RJ).

Barueri 1 x 3 Sesc-Flamengo | Best moments | Game 1 of the quarterfinals of the Women’s Super League

Sesc-Flamengo opened 2-0 calmly, corresponding to the favoritism of those who lost only two games in the current season. Barueri got scared by closing the third set, prolonging the match, but Rubro-Negro took control of the match again in the final stage to take a 1-0 lead in this quarter-final.

At the beginning of the set, Sesc-Flamengo and Barueri valued each play and alternated on the scoreboard. However, it was enough for coach Bernardinho’s team, which qualified in first place, to adjust on the four lines to open 8-3, scoring five consecutive points. With blocks from Michelle and Roni, and with the sharp aim of Jucielly, served by setter Brie King, Rubro-Negro dictated the pace of the match until closing at 25 to 15.

Sesc-Flamengo returned to the court in the second set at an electrifying pace: they opened 4-0 and forced coach Wagão, from Barueri, to call timeout. With a masterful play, on the second touch, Brie King made it 7-3 for Rubro-Negro. Relentless in blocking and serving, Sesc-Flamengo – with aces from Roni and Sabrina – controlled the match, with around six points ahead. Barueri’s reaction went through Gabi Carneiro and Luzia, who reduced the advantage to just one point (18 to 17). This was the host team’s best moment in the match so far – but it was short-lived. Sesc-Flamengo scored 25-20.

Behind on the scoreboard, Barueri started the third set ahead. Sesc-Flamengo only managed to turn things around at 10 to 9. The host team scored five points in a row – their longest sequence this night – and reached 14 to 11. Driven by Roni and Sabrina, Rubro-Negro tied 15 to 15. Barueri then reacted again. In the fiercest stage of the duel, he did not give up and shot up the score: 25 to 20, forcing the fourth set. Sesc-Flamengo’s 12 errors – four times more than the opponent – were decisive.

Taking advantage of the sniper position, Barueri gave Sesc-Flamengo a hard time in the fourth set, even when behind on the scoreboard. After Michelle Pavão spiked the ball into the opponent’s court and made it 17-13, coach Wagão, from Barueri, asked for time and the instructions to his team were clear: be patient and not make mistakes. The team was brave, but could not resist the efficiency of Sesc-Flamengo, who, with another point from Michelle, closed 25 to 17.
