Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), granted provisional freedom this Thursday, 28th, to the colonels of the Military Police of the Federal District (PMDF) Klepter Rosa and Fábio Augusto Vieira. They will have to wear an electronic ankle bracelet and will not be able to leave Brasília.

The two police officers were arrested on suspicion of negligence during the terrorist acts on January 8th in the Praça dos Três Poderes in the capital. Klepter served as deputy general commander of the troop.

The colonels had been imprisoned since August 18, 2023. They were denounced, along with four other members of the PMDF, for omission, violent abolition of the democratic rule of law, coup d’état, qualified damage, deterioration of listed property and violation of duties.

When justifying the decision, Moraes considered that the transfer of the colonels to the PMDF’s paid reserve rules out any possible action to hinder the investigation. The minister also considered that there was “total restructuring of the command of the Military Police of the Federal District”.
