Brazil recorded, between Friday (22) and this Monday (25), 220,658 new probable cases and 43 deaths caused by dengue in the country. There have been more than 2.265 million cases and 758 deaths confirmed since the beginning of the year. Another 1,252 deaths are under investigation. The Federal District remains the federation unit with the highest incidence rate of cases, followed by Minas Gerais, Espírito Santo, Paraná and Goiás. Together, these five UFs concentrate 59% of the country’s dengue cases.

The age group that records the most dengue cases is 20 to 29 years old, with more than 431 thousand cases, which represents almost 19% of the total. The majority of people who get dengue are women (55.4%).

The public health emergency has already been declared in the Federal District and in 10 states: Acre, Amapá, Goiás, Espírito Santo, Minas Gerais, Paraná, Rio de Janeiro, Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina and São Paulo.

Last Thursday (21), Brazil surpassed the mark of two million confirmed dengue cases.

Vaccine redistribution

The Minister of Health, Nísia Trindade, declared last Wednesday (20) that she will redistribute unused doses of the dengue vaccine to new municipalities. The measure was informed at a press conference with the head of the department, who also announced the release of R$300 million to support municipalities in the purchase of medicines, serums and other essential items for the care of dengue patients.

“We are going to redistribute the doses that were not applied and that are in the municipalities, using the ranking of municipalities that are in an emergency situation. This is in process. It has to be done in a very careful way. And that is very positive . I would also like to take advantage and remember what I have been saying throughout the press conference: the vaccine is a very important instrument in the medium and long term, it is not a solution to this balance, especially a vaccine that is manufactured in two doses spaced three times apart. months,” he said.

The minister added that the purchase of serums, medicines and other items will be reinforced by the ministry. “We are allocating, this ordinance was published today, R$300 million to states and municipalities to specifically purchase these medicines,” she stated.
