The Rio subway will have a special scheme to serve the public going to the Madonna concert, on May 4th, at Copacabana Beach, in the South Zone of the city. On the way home, the three MetrôRio stations will be open for boarding until 4am on Sunday, the morning after the show, as columnist Ancelmo Gois reported.

The show, scheduled to start at around 9:30 pm, marks the end of “The Celebration Tour” in celebration of the American singer’s 40th anniversary. To go to the show, the concessionaire advises that customers disembark, preferably, at Siqueira Campos station, in Copacabana.

See the details of the subway operation on the day of the show:

Line 2: will operate between Pavuna and General Osório/Ipanema

Lines 1 and 4: will follow the route Uruguay/Tijuca and Jardim Oceânico/Barra da Tijuca.

Transfer between lines 1 and 2: The change of trains can be made on the stretch between General Osório/Ipanema and Central do Brasil/Centro stations.

Boarding rules:

  • The concessionaire recommends that passengers buy and top up their Giro, MetrôRio single ticket or RioCard tickets in advance, also prioritizing buying an early return, facilitating entry into the system.
  • The fare is R$7.50 for the departure and R$7.50 for the return.
  • The transport of large volumes, Styrofoam boxes with ice, glass bottles, containers, fireworks, beach chairs, bicycles, skateboards, roller skates, scooters, hoverboards and surfboards will not be permitted.
  • Drinking alcoholic beverages and smoking is not permitted on trains and stations.
  • It is prohibited to walk barefoot, without a shirt or in bathing suits.

Cardeal Arcoverde Station: it will only work for disembarkation from 4pm to 10pm; and after this time, only for boarding with pre-purchased cards or contactless payment method (NFC).

Siqueira Campos Station: the concessionaire recommends you for boarding and disembarking; and will feature flow control equipment, exclusive communication and a reinforced team for the event.

Boarding the journey home: the Cardeal Arcoverde, Siqueira Campos and Cantagalo stations, all in Copacabana, will be open for boarding until 4am on Sunday.

Boarding times: The public will be able to access Copacabana stations until 4am on Sunday.

Special scheme: the three stations Siqueira Campos, Cardeal Arcoverde and Cantagalo will have increased security staff and station operators, in addition to passenger flow control grids to direct the public.

Open for arrivals only: Stations outside Copacabana will operate normally, from 5am to midnight, and after the usual closing time, they will only be open for disembarking.

Subway on the Surface: the bus lines, Antero de Quental-Gávea and Botafogo-Gávea, will operate from 5am to 11:30pm on Saturday; and from 7am to 10:30pm on Sunday.

Opening hours on Sunday: Metro operating hours will continue from 7am to 11pm. Line 2 will run between Pavuna and Botafogo, and the integration between lines 1 and 2 can be done in the section between Central do Brasil/Centro and Botafogo stations. Lines 1 and 4 will follow the Uruguay-Jardim Oceânico/Barra da Tijuca route. The Surface Metro (MNS) will operate from 7am to 10:30pm.
