Until this Wednesday (08/05), the State Department of Education and School Sports receives, in partnership with the Special Prosecutor’s Office for Women, from the Legislative Assembly of Amazonas (Aleam), training with the aim of combating sexual exploitation of children and adolescents in the state network. The action is part of the calendar of activities of the “Caminhos Seguros” operation, carried out nationally by the Ministry of Justice and Public Security (MJSP).

With a focus on the educational field and the school environment, training for teachers, pedagogues, advisors, regional and district coordinators and school directors began this Tuesday (07/05). In addition to legislation that supports children and adolescents, education professionals also had contact with specialized and humanitarian listening techniques, practical signs for identifying cases and violence, and standard procedures and operations in the event of complaints.

“This protection network needs to be unified every day, which is why it is important that we work with other bodies, in joint activities. At the Secretariat, we have been working very hard in this direction and recently created the Committee to Combat Moral and Sexual Harassment of the Department of Education, in addition to other actions. It is important that the teaching staff and other education employees know how to deal with this issue”, highlighted the Secretary of Education, Arlete Mendonça.

The team of professional trainers is made up of social workers, lawyers and psychologists from the Special Prosecutor’s Office for Women. The body provides services and works in partnership with the Public Defender’s Office of the State of Amazonas (DPE-AM), and participates in events focused on women’s rights in the capital and interior.

“Today we had a combination of efforts between the State Government, through the Department of Education, and Aleam, through the Attorney’s Office. We understand that school, outside the home, is the place where children spend the most time. So, teachers can identify and join forces to handle cases like this”, highlighted state deputy Alessandra Campelo, coordinator of the Attorney General’s Office.

Operation Safe Paths

Carried out in all 26 Brazilian states and the Federal District, the operation is coordinated, in Amazonas, by the Amazonas Public Security Secretariat (SSP-AM). The activities began last Friday (03/05), with the Integrated Inspection Center (CIF) which identified bars, inns and hotels in Manaus with possible cases of violence.

The CIF had the participation of SSP-AM, the State Secretariat for Justice, Citizenship and Human Rights (Sejusc), Municipal Secretariat for the Environment and Sustainability (Semmas), Military Police (PMAM), Civil Police (PC-AM) , Fire Department (CBMAM), Children and Youth Infractional Court (JIJI), Guardianship Council, Health Surveillance, Municipal Security Secretariat (Semseg), Municipal Institute of Urban Planning (Implurb), Municipal Secretariat of Social Assistance (Semasc), Surveillance and Health Foundation (FVS), Amazonas Energia and Municipal Institute of Urban Mobility (IMMU).

Operation Caminhos Seguros activities continue until the end of May across the country.
