Floods: MG firefighters search for missing people in Rio Grande do Sul

Minas Gerais firefighters work, this Saturday (4), in the city of Bento Gonçalves, close to the metropolitan region of Porto Alegre, in Rio Grande do Sul. There, a search is carried out for victims who are missing after landslides and burials that hit the region during the heavy rains that devastate much of the state.

The Minas Gerais team, made up of 28 firefighters, has been working in several cities in the state since Friday (3), and is still searching for possible victims of flooding in the locality.

“To begin the search, a solid operations base was set up that has the operational capacity so that the Minas Gerais team can travel to places where the population needs help. Within the difficulties encountered by the Fire Department is the territorial extension of the disaster.

According to the latest bulletin from the Civil Defense of Rio Grande do Sul, released this Saturday, the number of people who died in the tragedy rises to 56. In addition, there are 67 missing and 74 injured due to flooding and landslides.

Civil Defense also states that 42,200 people had to leave their homes. Around 300 municipalities affected. Porto Alegre airport and bus station are closed. Rescues are hampered due to bridges destroyed or washed away by the force of water. There are around 135 total road closures.
