Around 500 kg of cocaine were seized this Tuesday (23) by the Special Border Group (Gefron), in the rural area between the municipalities of Diamantino and Tangará da Serra, 299km and 242km from Cuiabá, respectively.
The investigations began after the plane crash into a corn field in Tangará da Serra, this Monday (22). The policemen suspected that the plane had been used to transport drugs because it did not have rear seats.
The operation called ‘Protector of Borders and Boundaries’ is part of the continuous and integrated fight against drug trafficking by Gefron in partnership with the Federal Police, Military Police, Brazilian Army and National Intelligence Agency (Abin).
Two men were arrested on suspicion of involvement in the aircraft crash.
According to the Civil Police, three firearms and more than 600 ammunition of different calibers were found with them.
The owner of a corn farm, where the aircraft crashed, called for help and reported to the police that two suspicious men were seen on the property.
After communicating the facts, the police analyzed the video of the crashed aircraft, finding that the plane was possibly used to transport drugs.
Location of suspects
According to the police, investigations began after analyzing the images of the suspects in the video. The police went to the city of Campo Novo do Parecis, 397 km from Cuiabá, where the vehicle used in the escape was said to be. While monitoring the address of those involved, the agents came across them, starting a police chase.
After the approach, 9mm pistol magazines and 357 caliber ammunition were seized inside the vehicle. A 357 caliber revolver was also found nearby, which had reportedly been thrown by the suspects.
Upon arriving at the home of one of the suspects, the police seized a 22-caliber rifle with 588 rounds of ammunition, 16 rounds of 380-caliber ammunition and a scope of ammunition. One of the weapons seized was reported stolen.
The men were taken to the Campo Novo do Parecis Police Station, where they were charged with carrying and illegally possessing a firearm with ammunition and receiving it.
