New epidemiological bulletin points to 58 new confirmed cases of Chikungunya in Mato Grosso do Sul

The number of probable cases of Chikungunya in Mato Grosso do Sul reaches 3,975. According to the epidemiological bulletin released by the SES (State Department of Health), 58 new cases were confirmed between the 16th and 17th epidemiological week, totaling 449 new cases.

The number of pregnant women positive for the disease remained the same, with no new confirmations – so far there are 7. Deaths were also not recorded and, therefore, the State remains without deaths from the disease in 2024.

Of the 79 municipalities, 19 have a high incidence of probable cases of Chikungunya. Antônio João occupies 1st place in this ranking, with 305 cases being evaluated.

In terms of confirmed cases in 2024, Jaraguari stands out in the ranking, with 92 people positive for the disease. Chapadão do Sul, Sete Quedas and Maracaju come next, with 55, 42 and 23 cases, respectively.

Chikungunya

Chikungunya is an arbovirus transmitted by the bite of infected females of the Aedes genus, the same mosquito that transmits dengue fever. The chikungunya virus can cause disease with neurological problems such as Encephalitis, Myelitis, Meningoencephalitis, Guillain-Barré syndrome, cerebellar syndrome, paresis, paralysis and neuropathies.
