They understand that the store’s refusal to issue the invitation characterizes homophobia and violates legal and social principles. The deputy’s request mentions the STF’s recognition, in 2011, of stable same-sex unions, in addition to a resolution from the National Council of Justice, which obliges Brazilian registry offices to perform marriages between people of the same sex.

Wanted by UOLthe couple who suffered homophobia stated that they consider acceptance by the MP to be a very important step.

The couple requested a quote for invitations from the studio via WhatsApp. To the UOL, event promoter Henrique Nascimento, 29, who contacted the online store, said that service was going well until he mentioned the names of the bride and groom, two men. He and Wagner Soares, 38, have been together for eight years and seven months and are already married, but they plan to hold a party to celebrate their union in September next year.

Loja informed that it could not make “homosexual invitations”. In the conversation, to which the UOL had access, after Henrique sent references for invitation models, the studio recommended that the couple look for another company. “I apologize for this, but we do not make homosexual invitations. It would be nice for you to look for a stationery store that meets your needs”, wrote the person responsible for the company.
