The feature film presents an innovative proposal in a saturated genre.
Tess arrives in the city of Detroit for a job interview. The young woman rents an Airbnb, but when she finds herself there late at night, she realizes that the house had already been mistakenly reserved for Keith, a strange man. Against her better judgment, she decides to stay for one night, and the two are forced to share a house, located in a suspicious neighborhood in the city. Upon deciding to stay there, the young woman soon discovers that there is much more to fear in the house than in her new companion.
For those who don’t know what it’s about, this is the synopsis of Brutal Nights, a widely critically praised 2022 horror film. In the plot, we follow a story that at first doesn’t seem like it, but is full of originality that is beyond most of the genre.
Newly arrived in the Netflix catalogue, the feature film is currently in the Top 10 of the most watched on streaming, becoming news among the public. During its release, Barbarian (in the original) had already been responsible for captivating the press, defined as “an exciting and consistently unpredictable journey for horror fans”.
On Rotten Tomatoes, the work has a 93% approval rating from experts, who praise the work signed by Zach Cregger. In the cast, names like Georgina Campbell, Bill Skarsgård and Justin Long are present, also praised.
Prior to its release, Brutal Nights went through difficult times before obtaining the necessary financing, largely due to producers asking Cregger to change “unnecessary” elements of the script. The filmmaker then put his foot down and believed in his proposal, being rewarded in the future.
With an investment of a mere 4.5 million dollars, the film earned 10 times its budget, grossing 45 million at the box office worldwide. The success took Cregger to another level in Hollywood, leading him to put Weapons, his next feature film, into production.
