A group of Brazilians held a protest in front of the Península Hotel, in London, where the 1st Legal Forum – Brazil of Ideas is taking place, with the presence of Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), as well as other Brazilian authorities.

With Brazilian flags and posters thanking Elon Musk, owner of the X network, the protesters sang the national anthem and gave speeches criticizing the decisions of the Brazilian judiciary and the “dictatorship and censorship” that have taken hold in Brazil.

“We are here, to fight for our beliefs, for our God, for our religion and that is why we are here, it is nothing more than fighting against the dictatorship. Alexandre de Moraes, you are a dictator. What are you doing with all Brazilians? If you don’t want to be challenged”, says one of the protesters in one of the videos of the act.

The demonstration was mobilized by Brazilian Alexandre Kunz, who confronted Minister Barroso during a lecture in Oxford. He has lived in England for over ten years and has a British passport.

In the mobilization video for the event, Kunz says that the STF ministers will be staying in a hotel in England, where the daily rate costs an average of R$7,000, and questions the reason for holding an event that will be held behind closed doors and no press access.

“What is so secret about them coming to discuss here in England? Knowing that they value dictatorship, censorship. That is the question. And you are the one paying for everything, and no one will know what they discussed in this case. Why is this entourage right now, a few weeks before the American Congress subpoenas Elon Musk to discuss Twitter Files? What are they up to?” says Kunz.

The meeting with Brazilian authorities in London is organized by Grupo Voto, chaired by political scientist Karim Miskulin, who in 2022, on the eve of the electoral campaign, hosted a lunch for Jair Bolsonaro (PL) with 135 businesswomen and executives at Palácio Tangará, in São Paulo .

According to information from Newspaper, the press is prevented from accessing the event and this Friday not even access to the hotel’s common areas was allowed. “Two floors of the luxurious London hotel were reserved for the participants — in total, 21 of them perform public functions in Brazil. On the tables, there are signs warning guests that it is prohibited to photograph, record or edit participants’ speeches for journalistic articles”, informs The Sheet.

In addition to minister Alexandre de Moraes, the event features presentations by ministers Gilmar Mendes and Dias Toffoli, as well as the Minister of Justice, Ricardo Lewandowski, and senator Davi Alcolumbre (União-AP).

In a statement, Grupo Voto claimed that “the forum is a private event” and the event’s publicity material states that it is an “international mission, perpetuating the democratic space and promoting a constructive dialogue in favor of Brazil’s advancement”.
