A 38-year-old Russian woman was rescued from a situation of domestic violence in Montes Claros, in the North of Minas Gerais, this Wednesday (April 24). The foreigner asked for help from the Consulate of the Russian Federation in Belo Horizonte, saying she was physically and psychologically attacked by her partner, with whom she has a two-year-old daughter. She was found in “extreme psychological vulnerability”, according to the Civil Police.

According to delegate Monique Bicalho, from the Specialized Police Station for Women’s Assistance (Deam), the victim said that she began the relationship with the suspect, aged 35, when she still lived in Russia. After about three years of dating, she came to live with the man in Minas Gerais and had a daughter with him.

Violence, however, became routine. The Russian woman reported being attacked by her partner. She said he forced her to hand over all the money she received from her family, using the money to support her alcohol addiction. Fragile, she decided she needed help and asked the consulate.

“The victim and her daughter were rescued in Montes Claros, during a trip she was taking to withdraw money sent by her family who lives in Russia”, revealed delegate Bicalho. The foreigner was found with bruises on her body, “very weak and in extreme psychological vulnerability”, as described by the police.

She was taken to the Legal Medical Center for a physical injury examination. The examination report and other evidence of violence will be attached to the investigation procedure against the suspect. The investigation was opened to investigate domestic violence, bodily harm, threats, insults and illegal harassment.

The Civil Police may request a request for preventive detention if the investigation progresses in this direction. A protective measure was also requested for the mother and daughter. They will remain in a location protected by the police.
