Rio Grande do Norte, more than a month after the start of the influenza vaccination campaign, reached 27.75% of the target audience, which represents 312,756 doses applied. The number places the state in 4th place in Brazil in terms of the percentage of people vaccinated, behind Rio Grande do Sul (31.76%), Paraíba (28.45%) and Santa Catarina (28.38%). The information is from the State Public Health Secretariat (Sesap).

This year the influenza vaccination campaign began on March 18th and continues until May 31st, vaccinating the priority public, such as children aged 6 months to under 6 years of age, pregnant women, women who have recently given birth, elderly people aged 60 and over. , teachers and indigenous people. According to Sesap, the goal is to immunize at least 90% of each of the 17 priority groups for the campaign, which in RN total 1.3 million people.

The municipalities of Caiçara do Rio do Vento (85.98%), Severiano Melo (85.48%) and Lucrécia (85.17%) had a higher proportion of vaccinations of their population until this Tuesday (23). The state capital, Natal, reached 14.66% vaccination coverage.

Vaccination against influenza has the capacity to promote immunity during the period of greatest circulation of viruses, reducing the worsening of the disease, hospitalizations and the number of deaths.
